Does my pet really need these vaccines?

Will my pet feel sick after receiving vaccines?

  • Possible side effects include lethargy and muscle soreness. These side effects are common and usually only last from 24 to 48 hours.
  • If hives, facial swelling, vomiting, or diarrhea occur, call Boca Mobile Vet immediately, as this could be an allergic reaction.
  • A small lump in the skin may be noticeable for several weeks after injections, and usually resolves. If the lump becomes painful, swollen, or hair loss occurs, call Boca Mobile Vet.

Which pets are most likely to have vaccine reactions?

  • Smaller and older pets have an increased risk of vaccine reactions. We recommend dividing vaccinations over 2 visits.
  • Certain breeds, such as Dachshund and Pugs, are also at an increased risk for vaccine reactions. We recommend pre-medicating prior to vaccinating.

How often should my pet have a fecal test?

  • At least once a year for diagnosing dangerous intestinal parasites that can be passed to your family and other pets.
  • Fecal tests detect Roundworm, Hookworm, Whipworm, Coccidia, and Giardia.

Which cats should be tested for FeLV/FIV?

  • All new cats or kittens brought into your home should be tested before being introduced to other cats in the household.
  • Cats that are allowed outdoors or have been exposed to cats with unknown history of vaccinations or FeLV/FIV status.

Why should dogs be tested for heartworms?

  • Heartworm disease is transmitted by the bite of a single mosquito and is fatal without treatment.
  • We recommend testing your dog for heartworm disease once a year.
  • A simple once a month pill can protect your pet from this harmful disease.

Why should I have my pet microchipped?

  • A microchip, which easily is implanted under your pet’s skin, is linked to a national registry that contains your contact information.
  • In the event that your pet becomes lost animal shelters and veterinarians can quickly scan your pet and gain access to your contact information.
